The meeting where artists are in the center

ArtistMeeting is a moment of interaction where introductions to artists are made. It is a place where young talent is discovered and established artists are revisited.

Art galleries can scout for artists to represent internationally, and art lovers and collectors are guaranteed to discover something.​

ArtistMeeting consists of a digital and a physical aspect.
The digital platform connects the selected artists with more than 40,000 art lovers and more than 20,000 international art dealers​.

The physical event offers art lovers the opportunity to meet the creations and the artist behind the scenes in person thanks to presentation modules on the wall or in open space.

The selection committee

Artists from around the world are presented to a jury of renowned art experts. Each juror then has the opportunity to nominate a project for an award*.​

Willem Elias

Expert in Belgian art and published several books in this context, in 2006 and 2012. He was also founding president of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts and a member AICA.

Hugo Brutin

Has been a member of AICA for many years and has a remarkable overview of the international art world. He used to have his own program on Belgian Radio 2 and has written countless art books over the past decades.

Hilde Van Canneyt

The youngest of the 3, is known for her interviews with artists. For example, she released the book "4321 questions to 123 artists," emerging talent and grandmasters from Belgium and the Netherlands were featured.

*Just before the opening, the jury may announce their selection of the strongest projects.
These will be rewarded with an Award, more info to follow in early August.

Period

ArtistMeeting takes place from Friday, August 18th through Sunday, August 20th.
In addition to ArtistMeeting, other interesting events take place during this period.

HIGHLIGHTS.be

HIGHLIGHTS.be is a tribute to the tradition of collecting art in Flanders, 10 top works by 10 internationally renowned art collectors will be featured at the Grand Casino Knokke from August 5 to 15.​

Knokke Art Fair

Since 48 years there is the tradition of the art fair in Knokke at the beginning of August. The Knokke Art Fair, at the Grand Casino Knokke brings a selection of renowned international galleries in Modern & Contemporary art combined with design. This year there is a focus on Yayoi Kusama. The fair takes place at the Grand Casino Knokke from August 5 to 15.​

Cirque du Soleil

KURIOS, the latest show from the internationally respected Cirque du Soleil will be on display all summer in Knokke-Heist. They are setting their tent along the main road entering town.​

Fireworks Festival

During ArtistMeeting, more than 40,000 spectators enjoy the fireworks festival daily, which takes place on Friday 18 August and  on Sunday 20 August right in front of the entrance to ArtistMeeting, on the beach opposite the Grand Casino Knokke.​

Zoute beach flower festival

Also during ArtistMeeting, on Saturday  August 19th, you can take a look at the Zoute beach flower festival. On the beach in front of the Albertsquare, also called "place m'ast-tu" vu, a tribute to the tradition of beach flowers will be brought, in collaboration with Daniël Ost, via the sea dyke within walking distance of ArtistMeeting!​

Location

The Grand Casino of Knokke may be considered a true international cultural temple on the Belgian coast. It was the Nellens family that put the Casino on the international cultural map in the 20th century with exhibitions of artists such as Max Ernst, Raoul Dufy, Marc Chagall, Ossipp Zadkine, Joan Miro, Fernando Botero, Paul Delvaux & Keith Haring. It also often featured young artists such as Joseph Beuys, Panamarenko, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol.​

More recent cultural high profile initiatives such as HIGHLIGHTS.be where art collectors take center stage and the experimental "Indiscipline" of WIELS, the Casino also houses the "Knokke Art Fair" which is internationally touted in the summer calendar.

The Magritte Room with its 72-meter-long mural "The Enchanted Domain" continues to this day to exude the cultural richness of the Grand Casino Knokke.​

By the way, did you know that Knokke-Heist has more than 90 galleries in 2 square kilometers?
And the town shows a collection of outdoor sculptures such as "hospitality" by Barry Flanagan in the nature reserve "Het Zwin"?

The casino is located within walking distance of the streetcar & train station. Public parking is available near the casino, but we recommend walking or biking along the seawall.
